Electric Locator I - II

About the Role

This onsite position can be filled as an Electric Locator I or Electric Locator II, depending on qualifications and experience.

Electric Locator I

Entry-level position responsible for locating a single utility under supervision. Requires physical stamina and basic technical skills to support utility protection efforts.

Electric Locator II

Perform work that involves visual inspection of predefined construction areas and reading and interpretation of utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, while using special electronic equipment to locate and protect the utility from being damaged.

Responsibilities

• Be a safety champion; obey all safe work procedures, perform daily Hazard Assessments, maintain vehicle inspections, attend all required safety meetings, complete all safety mandated training, and report any safety events including near misses.
• Capable of completing assigned single (Locator I) or multiple (Locator II) locating tickets with or without supervision.
• Capable of closing out locate tickets on a tablet or computer.
• Accurately locate, paint, and flag one (Locator I) or two or more (Locator II) utilities.
• Able to read all maps and/or prints for one (Locator I) or multiple (Locator II) utilities.
• Inspect and report defective pedestals, meters, transformers, etc.
• Control and safeguard keys assigned for use on customer’s property.
• Detect and report suspected tampering with pedestals and equipment.
• Record all completed tickets (work), utilizing proper codes.
• Record/document inconsistencies in locating area.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Other duties as needed.
• Electric Locator II only:
  • Ability to perform all duties of Locator I and help when needed.
  • Capable of precise locate with multiple machines.
  • Able to assist Level 1 Technician with their assigned duties.
  • Capable of completing hourly and weekly tickets assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Ability to obtain/maintain TWIC card and pass background checks.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with fault-finding tools and software.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
• Commitment to safety, process improvement, and continuous learning.

Experience

• Electric Locator I: Minimum of 0-2 years in the utility or construction industry performing work requiring a mechanical aptitude with demonstrated use of maps/prints, or one year of directly related experience in the electric and fiber business, or one year of utility locate experience.
• Electric Locator II: Minimum of 2-4 years of locating experience and ability to work with minimal supervision on standard jobs.

Skills

• General knowledge of electric/fiber locating standards or willingness to learn.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Electric Locator II only:
  • Knowledge of electric/fiber damage prevention or willingness to learn.
  • Safety-focused with strong PPE compliance and hazard mitigation skills.
  • Mechanically inclined; skilled in locating tools and related software.
  • Able to interpret construction and underground system drawings.
  • Physically capable (lift 50 lbs) and able to operate company vehicles.
  • Follows instructions, manages shifting priorities, and works well under pressure.
  • Self-motivated team player with a questioning attitude.
  • Maintains equipment and safeguards company assets.

Working Conditions

This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing. As a provider of essential services, Entergy expects its employees to be available to work additional hours, in alternate locations, and/or perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company.

Primary work locations include Jefferson, Houma, Destrehan, Lockport, St. Rose, and Thibodaux, Louisiana. Travel up to 25% may be required.
