About the role
The Electric and Environmental Regulatory Paralegal role at Jackson Walker, one of the largest law firms in Texas, is available in their Austin office. This full-time position offers support to attorneys in electric and environmental regulatory permitting, compliance, and litigation matters.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and compile complex regulatory applications.
- Organize and label exhibits and supporting documentation.
- Submit electronic filings and supplemental filings.
- Track filings and maintain compliance with deadlines and regulatory requirements.
- Draft discovery requests including interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions, and disclosures.
- Aid attorneys and clients in responding to discovery requests.
- Review documents for relevancy and privilege and prepare privilege logs.
- Cover document collection and production.
- Coordinate depositions, including preparing notices or subpoenas and arranging court reporters.
- Communicate with witnesses and assist in preparing deposition materials.
- Aid in preparation of testimony, motions, and pre-hearing briefs.
- Manage exhibits and take notes during hearings.
- Coordinate witness logistics and attendance.
- Maintain and update exhibit lists throughout proceedings.
- Collaborate with attorneys and clients to prepare for daily hearing activities.
- Prepare post-hearing briefs and ensure timely filing of all post-hearing documents.
- Support environmental due diligence reviews and regulatory research.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Paralegal certification required; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant paralegal experience in a law firm, preferably within environmental or regulatory practice.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, litigation processes, and regulatory procedures.
- Experience with e-filing systems and regulatory agency requirements.
- Proficiency in legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
