Election Warden
About the role
The Town of Scarborough is seeking an Election Warden to oversee municipal elections. There are typically two elections each year. Every four years, there may be three elections due to the presidential election. On Election Day, the Warden must be available for the full day, generally from 5:00 a.m. until approximately 10:00 p.m., with scheduled breaks for provided lunch and dinner.
Responsibilities
- Enforce the law governing voting and counting procedures at the voting place over which the warden has jurisdiction on election day.
- Keep order at all times in and around the voting place.
- Direct that any person who creates a disturbance or otherwise violates the law at the voting place be removed from it and, if necessary, confined until the polls are closed.
- Election clerks at the voting place are under the supervision and control of the warden. The warden may assign their duties for convenience and efficiency and may delegate the warden's ministerial duties to them.
Requirements
- Ability to familiarize and assimilate knowledge of the provisions of the Town Charter, ordinances and State regulations as they relate to the operation of the Clerk's office and Town.
- A high school graduate, with post-secondary courses in accounting, business, and computer technology preferred.
- At least 18 years of age, a registered voter in Cumberland County and not an officer of a municipal committee of a political party.
- Prior experience in a municipal environment preferred.

In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered at the discretion of the Town.

This part-time position is expected to work up to 8 days per year.
Schedule
Full-time during election periods, part-time between elections.

The Scarborough Town Hall is located at 259 U.S. Route 1, just south of the junction of Rt. 1 and Black Point Road/Gorham Road.
