Elderly Nutrition Aide

About the Role

Responsible for supporting services provided for Elders with cultural awareness. This includes assistance with programming, activities, and kitchen duties such as preparing, serving, and cleaning to ensure nutritious meals. Cross-trained to work at other sites, learn routes, and perform additional assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide aide in independent living skills and opportunities.
  • Assist superiors and other providers in delivering services.
  • Listen and respond to clients to maintain high program satisfaction.
  • Deliver accurate care in compliance with policies and procedures for elderly programming.
  • Communicate timely with internal and external sources regarding concerns or provisions for elders.
  • Prepare and serve meals according to established menus and guidelines, ensuring culturally sensitive and nutritionally balanced meals.
  • Set up dining room for meals.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen, dining, storage, laundry, and sidewalk areas.
  • Assist with kitchen laundry.
  • Set up trays for home-delivered meals.
  • Participate in daily client reports and monetary transactions.
  • Deliver meals to homebound elders using GSA vehicles.
  • Return equipment to the kitchen for preparation of the next meal.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience in customer service.
  • Work experience in nutrition.
  • Valid MN Driver’s License, transportation, and insurance for meal delivery, travel between sites, and other business-related destinations (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire).
  • Completion of White Earth Reservation Safe Driving class within the first six (6) months of hire.
  • Food Handlers Training (or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days of hire).
  • ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain within one (1) year of hire).
  • CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain within the first six (6) months of hire; training provided).
  • First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain within the first six (6) months of hire).
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug screening.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • High standard of confidentiality and respect.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow policies and procedures of the White Earth Tribal Council and the Elderly Nutrition Program.
  • Knowledge of food, its nutritional value, preparation, portions, serving, and storage.
  • Basic operation of a personal computer, including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Basic operation of office equipment (copiers, fax machines, etc.).
  • Knowledge of resources available on and near the reservation.
  • Skill in operating food service equipment.
  • Skill in body mechanics.
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy containers of food and/or equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and keep organized, simple records.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively.
  • Knowledge of the demographics, culture, customs, and geography of the White Earth Reservation.
