About the Role

Hamilton County Schools, located in Chattanooga, TN, is working to ensure that all students thrive and experience a future without limits. This role involves collaborating with K-12 classroom teachers to design and schedule projects (PBLs, Design Thinking, and Design Challenges) that align with content standards and push students to think critically while using engineering design processes.

Dalewood Middle School serves approximately 300 students in grades 6-8. Our vision is to be a model middle school that fosters academic excellence and model citizenship for all students. Dalewood is dedicated to providing a supportive and nurturing environment where students are prepared for the challenges of high school and beyond through rigorous academic programs, emotional stability, social connectivity, and physical wellness.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers by creating rubrics, graphic organizers for design thinking, timelines, and material lists for projects.
• Facilitate the lab during after-school "open hours" and special scheduling for students, families, and community members to learn design thinking techniques and digital fabrication software.
• Safely operate and maintain lab equipment, including digital fabrication tools (microcontrollers, robotics kits, 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, CNC router) and traditional tools (woodworking, sewing, heat press). Perform scheduled maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, and repairs or arrange for technician support.
• Teach students and adults safe practices for all lab equipment and manage ordering and organization of stock materials and replacement parts.
• Participate in a network of HCS Digital Fabrication Specialists for professional development and support.
• Provide professional development for faculty on digital fabrication, design thinking, and technology integration in classrooms.
• For middle/high school classes, may teach STEM classes to grades 6-12.
• Perform general/clerical tasks such as answering phones, typing documents, filing, processing mail, and coordinating department functions.

• Must hold a bachelor’s degree.
• Teaching candidates must hold or be eligible for a valid Tennessee teaching license with an endorsement in Computer Science (Elementary Education endorsement allowed for elementary-level roles). Out-of-state license holders must apply for a Tennessee license.

Pay

Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience, following the Hamilton County Schools salary scale.
