About the Role

Guilmette Middle School, serving students in grades 5-8, is seeking a passionate, skilled, and student-centered 6th Grade English Language Arts Teacher who believes deeply in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels. The teacher will provide rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical-thinking skills while building their confidence and independence as learners. The role involves collaborating with colleagues to ensure instruction is responsive to students' academic and language needs, preparing them for continued success in middle school and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based ELA instruction aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Design learning experiences that develop students' ability to read and analyze increasingly complex literary and informational texts.
  • Support students in citing textual evidence, determining central ideas and themes, analyzing author's craft, and communicating their thinking clearly.
  • Provide explicit instruction in writing, including the development of claims, use of evidence, reasoning, organization, and revision.
  • Create regular opportunities for meaningful academic discourse in which students explain their thinking, build on the ideas of others, and use evidence to support their ideas.
  • Maintain high academic expectations while providing appropriate differentiation and language supports for multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data, student work, and other evidence of learning to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
  • Collaborate closely with ELA colleagues, ESL teachers, special education teachers, instructional coaches, and other staff to support student learning.
  • Establish a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student ownership, productive struggle, curiosity, and a strong sense of belonging.
  • Build positive relationships with students and families and communicate regularly regarding student progress, strengths, and areas for growth.
  • Participate actively in grade-level, content-area, schoolwide, and professional learning activities.
  • Contribute to a collaborative school culture centered on continuous improvement, equity, and shared responsibility for student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE teaching license in the appropriate content area and grade span, or eligibility for licensure.
  • Experience teaching English Language Arts at the middle school level preferred.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners and students with diverse learning needs strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of adolescent literacy development and effective middle school instructional practices.
  • Ability to design rigorous instruction that moves students beyond recall toward analysis, reasoning, discussion, and authentic application of learning.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive instruction and maintaining high expectations for all students.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.

Pay

$61,788.00 - $94,614.00
