FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF UNIT

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development in becoming a better version of themselves academically and holistically.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements engaging lesson plans for ELA courses aligned with NYS standards.
  • Creates a literacy-rich classroom that fosters critical thinking, reading, writing, and discussion skills.
  • Uses assessments to monitor student progress and adapts instruction accordingly.
  • Promotes a culture of reading and effective communication among students.
  • Integrates diverse and culturally relevant texts into the curriculum.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to enhance instructional effectiveness and student outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's in English, Literature, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Experience: Teaching experience in urban settings preferred.
  • License/Certification: NYS Teacher Certification in ELA or equivalent preferred.
