FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF UNIT
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development in becoming a better version of themselves academically and holistically.
Essential Functions
- Develops and implements engaging lesson plans for ELA courses aligned with NYS standards.
- Creates a literacy-rich classroom that fosters critical thinking, reading, writing, and discussion skills.
- Uses assessments to monitor student progress and adapts instruction accordingly.
- Promotes a culture of reading and effective communication among students.
- Integrates diverse and culturally relevant texts into the curriculum.
- Collaborates with colleagues to enhance instructional effectiveness and student outcomes.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's in English, Literature, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
- Experience: Teaching experience in urban settings preferred.
- License/Certification: NYS Teacher Certification in ELA or equivalent preferred.
