About the role

The English Language Arts Teacher position at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences is a full-time role reporting directly to the School Principal. The position is funded through the General Fund.

Responsibilities

• Create and implement engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum, Common Core, and state standards.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes a love for learning, respectful behavior, and a sense of community among students.
• Tailor teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring each student's unique needs are met.
• Affirmatively assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
• Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to parents/guardians.
• Collaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to enhance the overall educational experience and contribute to the school's positive and collaborative culture.
• Stay informed about current educational trends, participate in professional development opportunities, and continuously seek ways to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
• Contribute to a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability.
• Adhere to the District’s and School’s policies, expectations, and protocols as outlined in the District’s Policies and Procedures Manual and School’s Procedures Manual.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with Endorsement for desired grade level (ZL or ZD endorsement) and/or content area (BA or BX).
• Previous experience teaching elementary school students.
• Strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and effective instructional strategies.
• Passion for integrating arts into the curriculum and promoting creativity in the classroom.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the Google Suite.
• Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
• Ability to adapt to a dynamic educational environment and contribute to a positive school culture.
