About the role

The assistant nurse manager works with the nurse manager to oversee patient care and nursing services on their assigned unit and shift. They promote quality care and patient satisfaction while managing the day-to-day operations of the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Promote quality evidence-based care and patient satisfaction in a fiscally responsive manner.
  • Collaborate with the nurse manager in assessing and planning for nursing care.
  • Absent from the nurse manager, carry out responsibilities including leading the unit, acting as a resource, and supporting professional development.
  • Hire and evaluate staff, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective operations.
  • Support nursing professional development, Magnet, and Shared Governance through participation and mentoring.

Requirements

  • Required: 2 years acute care experience.
  • Preferred: 1 year experience in a similar or 'like' unit.
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in nursing.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in nursing.

Qualifications

  • Effective Communication: Understands and applies effective communication concepts and tools.
  • Knowledge of Patient-and Family-Centered Practice: Demonstrates respect and collaboration with patients and families.
  • Cultural Awareness: Shows respect and connects effectively with diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of Care Coordination: Integrates multidisciplinary treatments for optimal patient care.
  • Knowledge of Medication Administration and Prescription: Applies knowledge of various medications and their administration.
  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Utilizes tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis.
  • Health Information Documentation: Records medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, and tests.

Skills

  • American Heart Association ACLS, PALS, BLS certifications.
  • RN license.
