Eikon - Radar Software Engineer/C++ Developer (Huntsville, AL/Hybrid)

We are seeking a Radar Software Engineer to join the Eikon Research team in Huntsville, Alabama or remotely with periodic on-site visits. This long-term role focuses on designing, developing, and improving software for our family of ground-based radar systems.

About the role

The successful candidate will translate software designs and requirements into clear, well-documented code. This position requires a strong understanding of C++ language fundamentals, computer networking, and parallel processing paradigms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software implementations of radar algorithms, from low-level radar signal processing to high-level tracking algorithms (targets may include virtual machines, embedded systems, etc.).
  • Develop software to interface with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and FPGAs, including command-line test tools, benchmarks, or utilities to assist in testing firmware.
  • Develop unit and integration tests for new and existing codebases.
  • Develop new functionalities using distributed message frameworks and message-passing architectures, and add functionalities to interact with the radar user interface.
  • Develop documentation in-code and in PowerPoint/Word for product documentation.
  • Improve performance of existing code.
  • Participate in Agile development practices, including daily standups and sprint planning/reviews.
  • Utilize tools such as Git, GitLab, Jira, and Doxygen for code management, issue tracking, Agile planning, and documentation.
  • Assist on other projects at Eikon as needed, which may include development in other languages (C++/C, Java, MATLAB, JavaScript), software architecture design discussions, documentation, code testing, and code reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or an engineering-related field, or 5+ years of additional experience in lieu of a degree. Advanced degrees count as follows: Master’s degree = 2 years of experience, Doctorate degree = 2 years of experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • 5+ years of experience with:
    • C++11 or later, CMake, and GCC for ARM and x86-64 targets.
    • Practical Linux usage.
    • Version control (Git, GitLab).
  • Ability to work in-office for hardware integration and testing.
  • Ability to work both in a group and individually.

Skills

  • Background in radar, signal processing, or electrical engineering.
  • Background in embedded systems and real-time software development.
  • Experience with AMD/Xilinx Zynq/Zynq Ultrascale MPSoC or RFSoC (Multi-Processor System-on-Chip or RF System-on-Chip), or AMD/Xilinx FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays).
