About the role

The USGO Upland Prairie Region - Birmingham Area team is expanding to support the growing needs of our measurement and regulation facilities in Graham and the surrounding areas. We are seeking an Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Measurement Technician to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor stations, meter stations, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on natural gas driven compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
  • Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses and fixtures, using hand and power tools
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and associated components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes
  • Oversee, direct, and perform tasks related to the installation, start-up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment, such as: various types of meters, recording gauges, flow computers, LCEM units, transmitters, relief valves, regulators, valve actuators, pneumatic and digital controllers, filtration devices, odorizers, and gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers)
  • Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment with test equipment such as a Hart Communicator and Fluke meter
  • Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections, accuracy tests, calibrations, odorant tests, equipment change outs, relief valve tests, and gas quality analysis such as dewpoint levels, specific gravity, and gas samples
  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals, etc.) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use
  • Work closely with field personnel to schedule and properly route gas in the event of pipeline right of way maintenance or an emergency repair to maintain delivery to internal and external customers
  • Locate pipelines per the One Call center and perform valve maintenance
  • Perform and witness hydrostatic tests that assure material integrity for operation and installation of facilities
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Perform other tasks as required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated work experience in a related industry
  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures
  • Basic knowledge of engine mechanics
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software
  • Associate degree to include courses in engine maintenance or electricity/electronics preferred
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls preferred
  • Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems preferred
  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators preferred
  • Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment preferred
  • Expertise in Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) preferred
  • Experience on the Measurement side can be learned

Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents
  • Expert in Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC)

Skills

  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas compressor station control systems, measurement equipment, and other related facilities
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision
