EHS Regional Safety Manager

About the role

The Regional Safety Manager is the regional expert and resource in occupational safety and health, reporting to the Sr. Regional EHS Manager. This role plans, directs, and coordinates Environmental, Health, Transportation, and Safety programs to proactively avoid and eliminate related risks and losses. Frequent overnight travel (up to 50%) by land and/or air is required.

Responsibilities

• Engage Regional Vice Presidents, Regional Managers, and Area Managers to ensure accountability to Rain for Rent expectations.
• Ensure OSHA Safety and Health Compliance & Training by inspecting work areas and equipment, documenting safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures, recommending corrective procedures, and maintaining safety equipment supply and availability.
• Develop and present continuous improvement plans for department, regional, and branch needs.
• Assist branches with incident reviews and recommend corrective actions.
• Identify company safety training needs, develop, and coordinate safety and health training programs.
• Investigate incidents involving company vehicles, interview witnesses and drivers, and recommend changes to improve compliance with governmental and company procedures.
• Analyze reports from governmental agencies to determine appropriate actions.
• Perform risk assessments related to accident statistics, employee exposure, equipment maintenance, and equipment failure reports; recommend measures to improve safety records and protect equipment.
• Monitor Department of Transportation compliance, including driver records, BIT compliance, and GPS Scorecard improvement.
• Manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of company safety policies.
• Provide input on the design and development of facilities, work areas, and work procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental health and safety regulations and stay current with regulatory changes.
• Mentor, coach, and encourage employees, supervisors, and managers on safety culture, performance improvements, safety committees, and supervisor/peer interactions.
• Manage assigned projects to meet expectations and timelines; coordinate with team members and provide assistance as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.
• Minimum of five (5) years of related experience and/or training; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Ability to effectively deal with other people, especially company personnel, to enlist cooperation in implementing regulatory requirements.
• Ability to interact with regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractor personnel.

Work Environment

The employee will be exposed to outdoor changing weather conditions and indoor office settings with adequate ventilation. Periodic exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, extreme cold and heat (non-weather), vibration, and risk of electrical shock may occur. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
