EHS Multi-Site Leader

About the role

The EHS Multi-Site Leader is responsible for managing and performing the Environmental, Health, and Safety function for the designated sites. They lead the network of EHS associates across sites in the business unit(s), track and measure performance, assess capability levels, and identify common areas of EHS risks that can be managed across sites through program implementation.

Responsibilities

• Owns the development and leadership of the EHS Business Unit (BU) Strategy.
• Harmonizes BU strategy with Global Central EHS strategy and champions at the BU level for designated sites.
• Comprehends the operations strategy for aligned BUs and able to implement a roadmap to support operations.
• Presents strategy during annual ASR process.
• Provides oversight into EHS resourcing to site level based on the nature of operations; Factory Blueprint and focuses on building capability across site level EHS associates in the network.
• Leads recruitment process for Site EHS Leaders and other key EHS Roles.
• Maintains strong relationship with Site Directors through regular engagement, providing updates discussing site priorities and providing input on site EHS team.
• Leads and owns BU-level implementation of BD Excellence EHS components, ensuring effective adoption of tools; approving and validating site EHS maturity assessments and action plans; and driving ongoing progress reviews and alignment with site and EHS leadership.
• Mentors sites and drives professional development pathways.
• Onboards new EHS associates and partners with Central EHS to ensure all system accesses and training are provided.
• Provides training to sites and leadership through Leaders as Teachers model.
• Primary point of contact for assigned sites.
• Engages appropriate stakeholders of the organization to ensure effective support and resourcing for the sites and Business Unit.
• Responsible for EHS performance review and trend insights with BU Leadership, ISC leadership and CSO.
• Effectively communicates EHS performance and path forward on EHS matters to ensure a strong culture of associate safety and environmental management.
• Provides interim EHS support to sites during staffing gaps.
• Collaborates with local Plant Leadership Teams in the development and execution of EHS Recovery Plans as necessary.
• Establishes governance processes and monitoring cadence to ensure execution and track progress.
• Supports EHS compliance activities for acquisitions, divestitures and closures.
• Supports and provides guidance on findings, actions and strategies for timely and sustained closure.
• Engages or leads in applicable project teams in support of both BDX EHS and site network strategy.
• Mentor and coach site EHS leaders and teams by conducting regular 1:1 engagements and site visits; and ensuring effective development, alignment, and execution of site-level EHS strategies.
• Advises sites in the BU portfolio in the event of government agency inspections (i.e., OSHA or EPA) and in any procedures that may follow a citation.
• Acts as a liaison between the site and Central EHS and Legal when correspondence is needed with government agencies.
• Keeps abreast of changes to EHS that may impact BU/site operations; Initiates changes to practices and procedures to support compliance requirements.
• Demonstrates ability to use influence skills to successfully develop and implement effective safety and environmental programs which engage all sites across the portfolio.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to exercise judgment and appropriately communicate and manage during crisis situations if they are to arise.
• Engages and gains the support of associates in various positions of responsibility and in various functions within BD worldwide.
• Performs other duties as required to support the needs of the business unit/sites.

Qualifications

• Ability to travel (~25-40%).
• Experience with applicable GMP, ISO regulations, and knowledge of federal and state environmental and occupational safety and health regulations (EPA, OSHA, NFPA).
• Strong leadership competencies including managing change, teambuilding, servant leadership and talent development.
• Works effectively in a team environment.
• Solid computer skills including MS Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or Occupational Health & Safety or related degree.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety programs direction and implementation either as an EHS Professional or in a Production Environment.
• Experience designing and implementing strategies/programs/processes that support a business strategy.
