About the role
As the EHS Manager at the Van Buren Plant, you will drive and support site Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management initiatives in line with Tate & Lyle’s global Journey to EHS Excellence. Working closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams, you will improve the overall safety performance of the plant. This role involves a broad range of responsibilities within environmental, health, and safety, and may require spending 20–25% of your time in the plant.
Safety Accountabilities
Protecting our people and the environment is foundational to our business. As a Level 1 EHSQS Critical Role, you will:
- Drive EHSQS excellence culture and improvements.
- Develop, design, and implement EHSQS policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Set EHSQS goals and objectives for the Van Buren plant.
- Serve as an EHSQS management system (EHSQSMS) element owner.
- Comply with all EHSQS policies, procedures, and regulations relevant to your work.
- Ensure your actions do not present a risk to yourself, others, or the environment.
- Report all incidents, defects, hazards, and procedural inadequacies for corrective action.
- Suggest improvements to systems and methods to enhance safety, environmental responsibility, and cost-effectiveness.
- Adhere to Tate & Lyle’s Life Saving Principles (LSPs) and exercise Stop Work Authority to prevent unsafe conditions.
Responsibilities
- Champion and lead the overall site environmental and safety program, driving year-on-year improvements.
- Collaborate with site management and corporate EHS to foster a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
- Lead Process Safety Management (PSM) and Dust Hazards Analysis (DHA) compliance activities.
- Provide technical assistance for hazard elimination, prevention, mitigation, and resolution of safety issues.
- Coach and assist managers/leaders in developing and implementing effective safety programs.
- Assist and participate in departmental and site-wide safety teams, inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Monitor equipment, work areas, and practices for compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Ensure action items from incidents, near misses, audits, and observations are prioritized and completed.
- Develop safety training, policies, and promotional materials, including e-learning courses.
- Assist with safety reviews for new or modified processes, equipment, and product development.
- Maintain accurate safety statistics, incident rates, and progress reports for corporate and plant objectives.
- Participate in Tate & Lyle’s Solutions network committee meetings and serve as the communication conduit for new initiatives.
- Develop and manage the site safety budget, ensuring spending stays within allocated limits.
- Collaborate with local safety professionals, participate in drills, and support emergency response efforts.
- Prepare and submit environmental regulatory reports to the City of Van Buren and Arkansas DEQ.
- Receive and facilitate environmental inspections and audits from the City of Van Buren and the EPA.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial or business management (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an industrial EHS program.
- Experience conducting safety investigations.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, NFPA, EPA, DEQ, and other governmental regulations.
- Proficiency in technology used for environmental aspects and Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, or similar software.
