EHS Manager
About the role
The EHS Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and sustainability of operations at Refresco sites. Reporting to the Plant Director, this position is essential for driving a consistent approach to EHS across all activities.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to and enforce all health and safety policies/procedures, GMPs, and PPE
- Ensure adherence to food quality and safety standards
- Develop and implement company management systems
- Lead and manage the work of other employees, including hiring, performance management, and termination
- Plan, evaluate, train, and develop staff
- Support yield/waste reduction initiatives with the production team
- Provide technical support and guidance on EHS legal compliance and best practices
- Liaise with HR on occupational health matters
- Coordinate EHS and Environmental Permit activities
- Conduct JSA reviews and audits
- Manage EHS training, audits, non-conformances, and PPE protocols
- Report on compliance (Tier II, OSHA, etc.)
- Manage waste, including achieving zero to landfill
- Ensure compliance with EHS KPIs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management or related field, or equivalent experience
- Five (5) years of management experience in EHS
- Sustainability project/initiative experience in EHS
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred
- Previous experience in food and beverage manufacturing industry
- Fluent in English and Spanish
Skills and Competencies
- Effective understanding of manufacturing technology and process, and associated EHS risks
- Ability to drive projects, optimize processes, and lead teams to achieve operational excellence
- Understanding and awareness of ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards
- Ability to provide education and training resources for operators
- Understanding of effective communication and presentation techniques
- Experience conducting incident investigations and understanding EHS auditing
- Knowledge of EHS KPIs and ability to make recommendations for improvement
- NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety as a minimum
- IEMA Diploma in Environmental Management
- Confidence to challenge existing ways of working and drive change
- Self-motivated and able to prioritize workloads
Working Conditions
- Weekdays, weekends, afternoons, evenings, nights, and holidays may be required
- Operating in a fast-paced production plant with numerous moving parts
- Noise levels requiring hearing protection and temperature extremes
- Structured and supervised environment with clear production targets and schedules
Pay and Benefits
The starting salary range for this position is $110k - $145k, with the potential for performance-based bonuses based on company objectives. Additional benefits include:
