About the role
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, is responsible for the leadership of the EHS program for the Evansville campus, which includes the Evansville Supply Center (ESC), quality control laboratories, research & development, and administrative operations on the Evansville campus. The EHS Manager will be the primary EHS contact for the Evansville campus and will be responsible for keeping current on all regulatory and company requirements to ensure that the facility maintains an exemplary record with respect to EHS compliance and EHS program expectations.
Your responsibilities
- Leads and manages the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) organization to meet business objectives across safety, cost, quality, compliance, culture, and capital.
- Develops and implements EHS strategic and continuous improvement plans by assessing industry trends, advancing innovative technologies, and driving forward‑looking EHS strategies.
- Communicates, reviews, and monitors EHS functional and financial performance, establishes clear expectations, and manages tools and processes to track key performance indicators.
- Ledges EHS projects and process improvements that enhance performance and deliver positive business results, championing impactful and innovative ideas.
- Builts and develops a high‑performing EHS team with a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, and commitment to organizational goals across the Evansville Supply Center, Quality, R&D, and MJN.
- Communicates a clear EHS vision aligned with site, functional, and enterprise objectives, and partners with line management to foster a culture that supports business success.
- Leads the EHS Management System for the Evansville campus, ensuring compliance and maintaining IDEM Environmental Stewardship and IOSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star status.
- Builts strong relationships and cross‑functional partnerships across the Evansville campus and with external agencies to ensure regulatory compliance, advance sustainability initiatives, and contribute to leadership team strategy and business planning.
The experience we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering or a closely related scientific discipline (e.g., safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, chemical engineering); Master’s degree or MBA strongly preferred.
- Professional certification in an EHS‑related field (e.g., CIH, CSP, PE, CHMM) preferred.
- Eight to ten years of EHS experience in a highly regulated industry, including facility‑based operational experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of EHS, OSHA, GMP, HACCP, and environmental regulations, including experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, Environmental Stewardship Programs, and “best‑in‑class” industry standards.
- Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Proven leadership experience managing people and EHS functions in dynamic environments, with a strong track record of developing teams and organizations.
- Strong project management and goal‑setting experience, including achieving functional and financial objectives and translating strategy into actionable plans.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, including effectively influencing diverse audiences and leading risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analysis, hazard identification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
