About the role

The EHS Manager leads and continuously improves the plant Environmental, Health & Safety program, focusing on occupational safety and injury prevention. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, conducting safety inspections, investigating incidents, and building a proactive safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve the plant safety program and safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, State of Idaho, and Darigold safety requirements.
  • Conduct safety inspections, workplace observations, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations; ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Lead investigations of injuries, near misses, property damage, and other safety incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Monitor and communicate safety performance metrics, trends, and opportunities to Plant Leadership.
  • Develop and maintain required safety programs, procedures, records, and regulatory documentation.
  • Lead plant safety training, including new employee orientation, refresher training, and job-specific safety training.
  • Maintain and improve programs including LOTO, Hazard Communication, PPE, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Emergency Response, Powered Industrial Trucks, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety, and other applicable programs.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM), including ammonia refrigeration safety, Management of Change (MOC), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), where applicable.
  • Provide safety oversight for maintenance activities, contractors, equipment installations, construction, and other high-risk work.
  • Develop and support Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safe work practices.
  • Cover emergency preparedness activities, including drills, response procedures, and training.
  • Partner with Human Resources on workers' compensation, return-to-work activities, and injury prevention.
  • Facilitate safety committee activities and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Support safety-related continuous improvement initiatives and special projects.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and make sound decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and develop practical solutions.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices.
  • Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and safety program implementation.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations required. OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Experience with PSM, ammonia refrigeration safety, or other highly hazardous process safety programs preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 3-5 years of progressive safety experience in manufacturing, food processing, dairy, or another industrial environment.
