About the role

The EHS Manager is accountable for the environmental, health and safety functions for the home building facility. This role implements and ensures compliance with environmental and safety training activities and programs intended to create a safe and healthful workplace. The EHS Manager will use proven methods for identifying and eliminating hazards, reducing accidents, and minimizing the business impact on the environment. This position influences plant leadership and team members to improve environmental and safety efforts and works with Home Office management on training programs as required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all record keeping and conduct activities necessary for environmental compliance (monthly material usage, stormwater, air permitting, etc.).
  • Walk through with environmental consultant (STRATA) personnel during scheduled visits.
  • Complete Annual Stormwater and other required training.
  • Champion the ISO certification/surveillance efforts, including leading EMS facility Committee and participating in Objectives and Targets Team Meetings.
  • Lead the ISO Coordinator and, when unavailable, perform their duties.
  • Champion the team’s health efforts by working with the wellness coordinator to promote good eating habits, physical fitness, and mental health.
  • Conduct and complete Injury and Illness reports with injured team members, Area Coordinators, and Team Leaders after thorough accident investigations.
  • Ensure post-accident drug screens are completed as required.
  • Report First Report of Injury to Broadspire within 24 hours of an accident.
  • Act as workers’ compensation liaison and participate in quarterly reviews of loss runs.
  • Complete and maintain OSHA 300 Log record keeping.
  • Administer the company’s Return-to-Work program, including transitional employment teams.
  • Report monthly EHS metrics to the Home Office EHS Director (OSHA entries, Lost Time Accidents, OSHA streaks).
  • Administer the workers’ compensation program, working with the insurance carrier to reduce lost time and fraudulent claims.
  • Maintain active involvement in the team’s safety committee functions, coordinating monthly meetings, inspections, and follow-up actions.
  • Walk through with property carrier loss control personnel during scheduled visits and provide a written plan of action within 30 days.
  • Walk through with Fortier loss control personnel and complete all corrective actions within 30 days.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings with Area Coordinators and Team Leaders to review accidents and injuries, identifying preventive measures.
  • Conduct facility inspections to detect and address safety hazards, making recommendations to management.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and regulations (Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Emergency Evacuation Plans, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with company and facility policies (Hot Work, Suspended Loads, Saw Safety, etc.).
  • Investigate work-related injuries/illnesses, on-the-job accidents, or near misses, completing case studies for the Home Office EHS Director.
  • Administer the Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Conduct annual Job Hazard Analysis and provide feedback to affected teams.
  • Ensure First Responders are trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED, and certified as required by law.
  • Maintain current Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Develop and conduct required OSHA training programs on plant work practices, safety precautions, and procedures.
  • Update the Safety and Health Manual to ensure consistency with written programs and keep the team informed.
  • Maintain team member records for all completed safety training.
  • Develop and conduct safety training as required by State and Federal law.
  • Ensure all powered industrial truck operators (forklifts, tractors, etc.) are trained and licensed per OSHA and applicable laws.
  • Conduct effective New Hire Orientation safety training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4+ years) in Environmental Studies or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of related experience.
  • General understanding and knowledge of federal, state, local, and company regulations (EPA, OSHA, workers’ compensation, ISO programs).
  • Experience in safety culture and industrial environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work may require stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Must be able to communicate via phone, email, and in person, exchanging accurate information.
  • Work environment is not temperature-controlled and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Work primarily involves sitting/standing for up to 4 hours at a time.
