About the role
This is a critical, onsite leadership role responsible for steering all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) operations, building a proactive safety culture, and ensuring every project team returns home safely every day.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with Site Leadership daily to drive a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with all company, customer, and regulatory standards.
- Act as the onsite authority for EHS activities: inspections, audits, daily walks, toolbox talks, and real-time risk mitigation.
- Maintain a visible, engaged presence — modeling what “Safety First” looks like in action.
- Develop & Coach High Performing Safety Teams
- Lead and mentor EHS Specialists and Safety Coordinators, including delegating tasks, scheduling, and developing talent.
- Deliver impactful onboarding, training, and safety coaching for field staff, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Drive High-quality Incident Prevention & Response
- Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective actions.
- Champion continuous improvement practices that reduce risk, prevent reoccurrence, and strengthen site performance.
- Elevate EHS Operations & Communication
- Communicate with senior level EHS personnel, GC site teams, subcontractors, and client partners.
- Manage EHS documentation, SDS inventories, metrics, and reporting cadence to the Site EHS Lead.
- Review and refine EHS processes, procedures, and forms — ensuring projects stay aligned with required standards.
- Build a Strong Safety Culture Across the U.S.
- Travel to new data center locations and help accelerate the growth of Black Box’s national safety program.
- Bring consistency, leadership, and proactive safety management to every new project site.
Requirements
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, mentoring, and teambuilding abilities.
- A deep understanding of OSHA standards, construction safety regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the presence to influence at every level — from frontline workers to senior executives.
- Strong conflict resolution capabilities and the confidence to manage competing priorities in fast-moving environments.
- Outstanding analytical skills, with expertise in incident investigations, RCAs, and hazard mitigation.
- The ability to create structure, build processes, implement improvements, and drive consistent EHS performance.
- Understanding of leading and lagging indicators, safety culture assessments, and loss run data.
- A positive, resilient attitude — thriving under pressure and adapting with professionalism.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in the construction industry.
- OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500/510 strongly preferred.
- Professional certifications required: CSP, ASP, or CHST.
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and digital reporting systems.
Role Details

- Travel: Up to 15%
- Supervisory responsibility: Project assigned EHS staff
