About the Role

The Environmental Health & Safety Manager (EHS) ensures compliance with all safety rules and regulations, the physical security of all company locations, and assists individuals in maintaining compliance. This position is responsible for ensuring Somic America, Inc. adheres to all OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements, as well as training and insurance mandates. The EHS Manager serves as a subject matter expert on safety, compliance, regulatory, and related insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve on corporate and division safety committees; review and discuss safety needs, provide updates, training, and compliance information related to DOT, Hazmat, OSHA, and other safety regulations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in manufacturing process safety to ensure industry best practices.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with safety and environmental requirements, including administering industrial hygiene tests, coordinating repairs and upgrades, and similar tasks.
  • Conduct site inspections and corrective actions:
    • Train and direct management to inspect facilities, work sites, and equipment for violations and hazards.
    • Provide direction to management on correcting identified problems in a timely manner.
    • Follow up to ensure all corrective actions are completed.
    • Assist where needed.
  • Update, maintain, and audit location safety standards and procedures on a quarterly basis.
  • Develop effective training programs for managers and employees to cover required materials and reduce travel.
  • Investigate all accidents to determine root causes and provide recommendations to eliminate or reduce future hazards or risks.
  • Track and control inventory of safety supplies and equipment; work with division managers to maintain adequate safety supplies.
  • Assist with training for new hires and provide ongoing training for all employees.
  • Review and update the MSDS library as needed.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the safety program using established goals and implement corrective actions based on industry standards and best practices.
  • Conduct applicable training to promote a safe, healthy, and secure work environment, including emergency situations (e.g., tornados, fires), alarm system use, and other safety measures.
  • Serve as a safety/compliance liaison with outside organizations, including safety and compliance audits.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other governmental regulations, including OSHA 300 logs and insurance provider requirements.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques.
  • Previous implementation of ISO 14001.
  • Ability to travel occasionally (25%).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of safety management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of statistics, data collection, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA General Industry 10 or 30-hour training course.

Pay

Salary: $63,700–$103,100 DOE.
