About the Role

The EHS Technician assists and organizes the development and implementation of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and systems under the direction of the Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety. This role promotes safe and healthy working conditions, develops environmental protection methods, ensures compliance with regulations, and recommends measures to reduce environmental and safety risks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining and implementing cost-effective EHS programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Wabash National policies.
  • Assist with and maintain all required Environmental permits for facility processes, equipment, or discharges.
  • Provide guidance and support to management on EHS issues.
  • Work closely with all levels of associates to establish, maintain, and improve EHS programs.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of equipment and materials used in the facility, including pollution control devices.
  • Promptly notify the EHS Manager and operations Supervisor of potential enforcement issues, accidents, or control device malfunctions.
  • Aid in the timely preparation of required reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and implement procedures/SOPs to reduce safety/environmental risks and address emergency situations.
  • Review materials used by manufacturing operations and maintain the MSDS database.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and organized recordkeeping system to verify compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure responsible parties are immediately notified of EHS concerns and action is taken.
  • Retain and oversee vendors/contractors dealing with EHS issues as assigned.
  • Attend training sessions, meetings, and seminars to maintain proficiency in EHS areas.
  • Develop and provide EHS-related training programs to ensure associates understand environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Perform associate training as designated.
  • Assist with safety PPE selection and EHS/medical-related routine supplies.
  • Operate, test, and maintain fire protection systems and records.
  • Implement elements of the WNC Fire Prevention Plan.
  • Assist with annual property inspections and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain fall protection equipment inventory.
  • Respond to and contain spills as needed.
  • Assist with the development and review of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Risk Assessment procedures.
  • Maintain First Aid/CPR certification and act as a first responder at the site.
  • Drive or accompany associates to local clinics for medical/safety-related appointments.
  • Manage, deliver, and maintain operations involving paint inventories and associated activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Manager, EHS.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Basic reading, writing, and verbal skills.
  • Experience and education are a plus but not required; Wabash provides training for all positions.

Working Conditions

The role operates in an environment where safety, environmental, and health concerns may demand constant attention. The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Occasionally, the role involves working in extreme conditions with high noise levels and temperatures. All employees must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, lean, push, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle, and operate tools or controls for the entirety of the shift.
  • Full range of motion in arms and hands, with the ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees.
  • Frequently work in small spaces and lift/carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and good hand-eye coordination.
