Corporate Shared-Services role reporting to the Corporate HR Director. May have dotted-line oversight of plant-level EHS personnel.

About the role

The EH&S Manager ensures work sites are safe and comply with environmental and safety regulations. Responsibilities include developing and implementing EHS policies, managing compliance audits, reporting, workers compensation, and providing functional direction to plant-level EHS staff.

Responsibilities

  • Environmental
    • Ensure adherence to ISO 14001 standards and lead recertification audits.
    • Conduct regular audits for compliance with laws, regulations, and standards, including hazardous-waste management and disposal.
    • Implement compliance-calendar items and propose improvements to the ISO 14001 program.
    • Manage and update all documentation, reports, and training records.
    • Conduct regular meetings with management to report program status and open items.
  • Health & Safety
    • Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
    • Develop and implement required health and safety programs.
    • Identify potential hazards and develop risk-mitigation strategies.
    • Conduct monthly H&S audits, present findings, and track corrective actions.
    • Establish incident recording and reporting processes; investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
    • Manage workers’ compensation claims, coordinate with medical providers and insurance carriers, and facilitate return-to-work programs.
    • Conduct quarterly meetings with workers’ compensation insurance carriers.
    • Implement required employee training and maintain accurate records (e.g., LOTO, forklift, OSHA-required training).
    • Facilitate and maintain Safety Committees, including recruitment, training, and audits.
    • Serve as a first responder as needed and participate in quarterly plant-wide meetings to communicate EHS program status and metrics.
    • Stay updated on environmental and safety regulations.
    • Partner with PPE suppliers to ensure timely stocking and address supply issues.
    • Liaise with Toyota Safety and Security and support second/third shifts as needed.
  • Reporting and Compliance
    • Collect and prepare information on safety and environmental incidents for KPI tracking, internal reporting (e.g., daily safety cross, SLT scorecard, monthly KPIs), and compliance reporting (e.g., OSHA 300 Log, 300A Form).
    • Interface with regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and respond to complaints and inspections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, industrial engineering, or a closely related field preferred, or high school diploma plus 8 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years’ experience as a Safety Coordinator, Specialist, or Manager in multi-site, fast-paced manufacturing environments (automotive preferred).
  • Deep understanding of EH&S regulations and standards.
  • Experience implementing and managing EHS programs, standards, and procedures.
  • Strong training and coaching skills to guide employees on safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry card and OSHA #511 certificate required; OSHA #501 Trainer for General Industry and CSP preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and email/web-browser applications.
  • Proficiency in safety management software preferred.
  • Intermediate-advanced math and analytical skills; ability to follow technical procedures and prepare business/technical documentation.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual English-Spanish preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work across all organizational levels and cultures.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects/tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • Passion for creating a culture of EHS in the organization.

Schedule

  • Onsite, full-time, exempt position.
  • Approximately 60% of time spent on the shop floor; 40% on administrative tasks.
  • May require up to 5% domestic and international travel.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds individually and team-lift 50 pounds.
  • Must perform job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
