About the Role

Edwards Elementary is seeking Elementary General Education Associates for the 2026-2027 school year. Under the supervision of an administrator, this role assists teachers in educating students through instructional support, behavior management, record keeping, classroom safety, and communication with students and staff. The position also provides direct and indirect educationally related services to disabled students and supports special education teachers in fostering a positive learning environment.

Schedule

Approximately 20-25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This is a 9.5-month position.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students in interpreting and following teacher directions.
  • Supports students with classroom assignments during independent work time or workstations.
  • Works with individual students or groups to reinforce learning of material or skills prepared by the teacher.
  • Assists classroom teachers with collection and preparation of materials needed for lessons.
  • Helps with student record keeping and daily documentation.
  • Supervises and enforces building and individual discipline procedures in all educational settings, both in and out of school, as directed.
  • Assists with medical, health, or behavior-related needs of students as instructed by the administrator, teacher, or nurse.
  • Administers medication and first aid if required.
  • Assists in all aspects of personal hygiene for students.
  • Corrects assignments, performs data collection and entry, maintains records, and handles clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Participates in professional development as requested by administration.
  • Alerts principal or teacher to any problems or special information about individual students.
  • Interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, staff, and administration.
  • Maintains high ethical standards and confidentiality regarding student information, as expected of licensed teachers.
  • Ensures regular and punctual attendance to meet the district’s mission of educating children.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of the needs of children.
  • Ability to relate effectively to children of all ages and with diverse academic and behavioral needs.
  • Patience, compassion, and a caring, helpful relationship with children.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing (Google Docs or similar), internet searching, and email.
  • Professional communication skills, both written and oral, including active listening.
  • Ability to physically lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, lift, sit on the floor, run short distances, and assist physically active students.
  • Emotional maturity and stability for specialized work.
  • Initiative and insight to anticipate and respond to problem situations.
  • Ability to take directions, work with minimal supervision, and follow policies and practices.

Pay

$15.75 per hour.
