Educator, Alpha - $100,000/year USD
Alpha students complete their full academic workload in just two hours each day. This structure creates the foundation for this position: while adaptive software delivers academic instruction, your role is to provide the encouragement and guidance young children need to believe in their potential and tackle challenges with confidence.
About the Role
You will oversee a single K-3 cohort band—either Kindergarten-1st grade or 2nd-3rd grade. Half of your day involves facilitating dynamic, hour-long workshops focused on essential life skills such as public speaking, exchanging feedback, and sustaining attention. The remaining half is dedicated to coaching, both individually and in small groups, using real-time learning data to ensure every child progresses toward ambitious weekly targets. Your goal is to help students exit workshops with enhanced capabilities and leave coaching sessions believing they are capable of more than they previously imagined.
This is a full-time, in-person position requiring five days per week at an Alpha campus. Active openings are available in the following locations:
- Oklahoma: Oklahoma City and Tulsa
- Tennessee: Nashville
- Texas: Austin and Plano
- Utah: Park City (Salt Lake City area)
If you prefer a different Alpha campus, submit your application and indicate your desired location—we’ll connect you with the appropriate opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate hour-long life-skills workshops where K-3 students actively practice communication, concentration, and feedback—engaging physically and verbally, not sitting passively through lectures.
- Provide individual and small-group coaching, utilizing Coachbot (Alpha’s real-time learning-analytics platform) to identify students falling behind and intervene before weekly targets become unreachable.
- Evaluate life-skill proficiency through Test2Pass, Alpha’s demonstration-based mastery standard, continuing coaching until a student can genuinely perform the skill—mere participation does not meet the standard.
- Adapt your methods to suit the developmental stage: incorporate songs, physical movement, and narratives for younger students; emphasize independence, self-monitoring, and responsibility for 2nd and 3rd graders.
- Establish trust with each student so they’re willing to attempt challenging tasks in your presence and persist when initial efforts don’t succeed.
- Take ownership of your cohort’s performance metrics. Your students’ progress will be visible on a weekly dashboard, accessible to the entire team.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Delivering academic instruction from the front of a classroom (adaptive software handles academic content).
- Creating curriculum materials from the ground up (you’ll customize and refine established frameworks).
- Overseeing a quiet computer lab (if students are engaged in independent work while you remain inactive, something is amiss).
- Reducing expectations when a student encounters difficulty (you guide the student toward the objective—the objective never moves toward the student).
- Evaluating assignments, distributing homework, or managing standard parent communications.
- Operating remotely or on a part-time basis (this position requires on-site presence five days weekly).
Key Objectives
Develop a K-3 cohort of students who are enthusiastic about attending school, consistently achieve ambitious learning objectives week after week, and graduate from elementary school equipped with critical life skills—confidence, focus, communication, and resilience—that will continue benefiting them two decades into the future.
Requirements
- Able and willing to work in-person five days per week at one of the Alpha campuses identified in this job posting.
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (teaching certification is not necessary).
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with children ages 4-9—through teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps, youth programs, children’s theater, or comparable environments where children participated because of your involvement.
- Demonstrated success helping young children achieve goals they initially believed were beyond their reach, with concrete examples you can discuss in detail.
- Experience facilitating structured activities for groups of young children while maintaining engagement, focus, and participation among 10-15 or more students.
- Capability to communicate concepts clearly to young learners and redirect groups in real time when attention, behavior, or motivation begins to wane.
- Proven ability to respond to feedback by modifying your methods and enhancing results.
- Comfortable with performance measurement (you’ll be held accountable to weekly cohort data and will use that information to prioritize your efforts).
- Open to allowing AI to manage academic instruction while you concentrate on coaching, motivation, and life-skill development.
- Capacity to be authentically caring while remaining uncompromising regarding expectations.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Background in youth athletics, children’s theater, camp leadership, Montessori education, progressive schooling, or highly interactive after-school programs.
- Personal experience pursuing ambitious goals—in academics, sports, the arts, or your professional life—and discovering what dedication requires.
- Storytelling or performance abilities that captivate a room of six-year-olds without needing to elevate your voice.
- Concrete examples of transforming a hesitant or introverted child into a confident, engaged participant.
