Educational Guidance Counselor, Correction Education - SCI Camp Hill

About the role

The Department of Corrections seeks an Educational Guidance Counselor to support incarcerated adults in exploring educational opportunities, developing job skills, and preparing for reentry.

Responsibilities

• Student Orientation: Explain educational requirements and introduce available programs to new inmates
• Career Counseling: Interview inmates to identify goals and assist with resume writing and job preparation
• Testing Support: Administer and interpret tests to recommend academic or vocational placement
• Program Coordination: Develop rosters, monitor attendance, and maintain educational records
• Staff Collaboration: Work with educational staff to support planning, progress review, and graduation events
• Resource Management: Submit purchase requests and assist with material needs for educational programs

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and four years of paraprofessional experience in education, social work, or counseling; or Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and a bachelor's degree in the social sciences, behavioral sciences, education, social work, counseling, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes one year of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling.
• Other Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must meet the PA residency requirement.
• Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
