Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for monitoring of all reports, records and other documents (specifically audit file information) required or administratively useful for students with disabilities transferring into the district; initial student referrals and placements; and currently identified students.
- Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings including the preparation of, facilitator of, and follow-up.
- Support staff with writing standards-based, measurable, observable IEP goals.
- Support staff with progress monitoring through the collection and analysis of data.
- Serve as the facilitator and/or integral member of the Instructional Support Team.
- Communicate and support administration/staff with the implementation of IEP services, supports, and accommodations.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
- Maintain and monitor accurate student data information (i.e. special education database) including those necessary for the September 30th, December 1st and Exit reports.
- Cooky/Certification/Permit
- Coordinate the processes for initial evaluations, initial placements, and three-year re-evaluations.
- Serve as building contact person for parents who have questions or concerns regarding the provision of special education services.
- Facilitate articulation of students receiving special education services transferring from grade to grade and from building to building.
- Serve as building level liaison to various state and community agencies in order to coordinate services for students with disabilities.
- Ensure necessary reports are maintained in students' audit files for all initial evaluations and three-year re-evaluations.
- Facilitate referral for special education students to appropriate outside agencies, including filing out applications, speaking and meeting with outside agencies and serving as a district representative for students in out of district placements.
- Participate in staff development and staff meeting as a part of the school staff.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Special Education Services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education required.
- Hold or eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in the identified content area.
- Five years' experience as a Special Education Teacher required.
- Thorough knowledge of IDEA and IEP's.
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching.
- Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills.
Physical Requirements

- The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies.
- Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time.
- Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
