Educational Counselor

About the Role

The School Counselor provides ongoing academic, pragmatic, and social-emotional support to students with complex learning profiles throughout the school day as determined by the needs of the program. This role involves instructional support inside and outside the classroom, designing and implementing activities/classes, and collaborating with academic and clinical team members. The position requires maintaining a child-centered, therapeutic school setting and preparing classrooms to support student development.

This position requires patient care.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in the implementation of curriculum.
• Support teachers, clinicians, and administration in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.
• Provide academic support, accommodations, and modifications as needed.
• Engage and facilitate students’ transitions between classes and throughout the building.
• Supervise and implement coverage activities during staff absences.
• Supervise students in all school locations as needed, including during arrival and dismissal.
• Provide ongoing social-emotional support to students in the classroom and milieu.
• Design and implement activities/classes, with supervision, if needed.
• Complete student-related documentation as necessary.
• Prepare and maintain the milieu and classrooms for use each day.
• Proctor testing sessions, providing IEP-mandated accommodations as required.
• Model appropriate social cues and body language and provide social pragmatic support as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
• Experience with children and/or adolescents (0-1 year preferred).
• Flexibility, collaborative mindset, and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work collaboratively with academic and clinical team members.
• Commitment to professional growth and competency.
• Exhibits positive behavior towards students, parents, and staff.
• Responsive to issues presented in supervision.

This role may accept experience in lieu of a degree.

Pay

$18.58 - $26.58/hourly.

Schedule

• Onsite at 11 Hillside Avenue.
• Day shift.
• Per diem (scheduled weekly hours vary).
