This is a temporary, part-time opportunity for a retired educator or educator transitioning out of the classroom to join a mission-driven company focused on creating equitable classrooms for students. Candidates must live within 30 miles of Newark, NJ, have middle school math coaching experience, and must have own transportation with a valid driver's license.

About the Role

Working closely with the Senior Director of Professional Learning, sales team, and other Curriculum Associates professionals, the Educational Consultant (Math) will facilitate high-quality professional development, training, support, data analysis, and consultative communication with schoolteachers and leaders. This role is per diem, scheduled on an as-needed basis, with hours dependent on customer demand.

Schedule

Professional development is typically scheduled during normal school hours, with peak times from August through October and January through February. Given the seasonal nature of this role, maintaining a full-time role during school hours simultaneously is not recommended.

Travel

Travel up to 80% is required, including overnight stays and transportation via car, plane, or public transportation. Candidates must either currently live in or be open to relocating to Newark, NJ.

Pay

We offer a competitive hourly rate starting at $65/hour for educator-facing professional development delivery. Additional compensation is provided for preparation, co-facilitation, internal meetings, travel, and other required work activities. Mileage reimbursement may be available for applicable travel.

Responsibilities

  • Become an expert on the company’s online diagnostic and instruction program and Common Core product, focusing on Mathematics
  • Serve teachers in the classroom by coordinating on-site product training and professional development courses for teachers and school administrators
  • Adjust professional development workshops within specified parameters to fit the needs of the participants
  • Help ensure equity in the classroom by delivering professional development courses to teachers, coaches, and leaders on how to effectively implement Ready and i-Ready to impact classroom learning
  • Meet teachers where they are and provide tailored on-site support, including lesson planning, pacing, data analysis, and implementation feedback
  • Engage in an internal cycle of professional improvement and development (including observation, feedback, and coaching)
  • Track and submit detailed training notes, and complete all assignments in a timely manner
  • Present a professional image at all times to customers and prospects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2+ years of experience in teaching Mathematics, coaching teachers of Mathematics, and providing Mathematics professional development
  • Experience teaching mathematics at the secondary (6–12) level and/or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics or Mathematics education preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics for Grades 6–8 (or comparable state standards), including both content and practice standards
  • Fluency with using digital tools including online assessments, and comfort discussing and applying data with teachers and leaders
  • Understanding of principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development
  • Excellent facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Exceptional time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately
  • Proven organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent computer and internet skills, including knowledge of Office programs (Outlook, Word, PPT, etc.); knowledge of online meeting programs (e.g., Zoom/WebEx) a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an educational cohort
