This is a temporary, bilingual (DLI) position for the 2026/2027 school year, 5 hours/day, 365 days/year.

About the Role

The Instructional Assistant provides educational supports through supervision and instruction of students under the direction of licensed staff. Assistance to the licensed teacher is achieved through the planning and implementation of assigned instructional programs for students who are not in categorical programs (e.g., special education, ELL) and completing routine clerical tasks.

Pay

  • Starting salary range: $22.29 to $30.54/hour (Range 9)
  • Once bilingual proficiency is verified, pay increases to Range 10: $22.96 to $31.47/hour

Schedule

  • Temporary position for the 2026/2027 school year
  • 5 hours per day, 365 days per year

Responsibilities

  • Work under the guidance and direction of the licensed teacher with access to assistance and consultation
  • Assist teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students
  • Provide instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations
  • Perform record keeping and basic clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support teachers in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials
  • Confer with teacher(s) to provide feedback on student performance
  • Support students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults
  • Promote student safety through the application of the district's student management and safety guidelines
  • Monitor individual students, classroom, and/or playground activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment
  • Recognize escalating/emergency situations, call for help, and assist until help arrives
  • Evaluate situations to take appropriate action and/or direct to the appropriate personnel for resolution
  • Cross-train in a variety of school functions and assist other personnel as needed
  • Maintain classroom equipment, materials, and student files
  • Administer first aid and medical assistance for ill or injured children
  • Confer with teachers, parents, and community agency personnel (under teacher supervision) to assist in evaluating students' progress and implementing objectives
  • Participate in meetings to share information and improve skills/knowledge
  • Assist with student transportation needs, including bus supervision
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor within the scope of the job

Requirements

  • Completed associate’s or higher degree, or completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more), or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Prior job-related experience (paid or volunteer) with school-age children
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and First Aid/CPR card
  • Bilingual proficiency (required for this DLI position)

Skills

  • Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional practices
  • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and computer applications (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases)
  • Ability to perform basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations
  • Effective communication in English (verbal and written, including correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to rapidly learn methods and materials used in instructional situations
  • Ability to work independently or in a team, plan, prioritize, and complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to interact with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods
  • Ability to talk and hear conversations in potentially noisy environments
  • Fine motor skills for precise control of fingers and hand movements (e.g., keyboarding)
  • Ability to reach for and handle objects
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to focus on a computer screen for extended periods
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting/moving up to 40 pounds
