Educational Assistant I - ESL

7.5 hours per day position.

About the role

The Educational Assistant position provides each building with qualified employees who can assist in a variety of roles, including the IMC, ESL, Special Education, Security Monitor, Physical Education, and ISS. Assignments are based on building needs, allowing the district to serve students effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Support staff duties as assigned based on building needs
• Work interactively with students and staff
• Assist in program delivery for students with disabilities in a public school system
• Maintain sensitivity to students from diverse cultures and those learning English as a second language
• Stand, sit, bend, stretch, and lift up to 40 pounds for extended periods
• Complete twenty (20) hours of annual training to maintain Highly Qualified Status

Requirements

• High school diploma (required)
• Two-year Associate’s Degree or higher (preferred) or ability to pass a highly-qualified assessment
• Personal knowledge and work experience with school-aged children and children with cognitive, physical, and behavioral disabilities
• Corrected hearing and vision within normal ranges
• Ability to submit the following clearances if hired:
  • Criminal Record Check (less than one year old)
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance (less than one year old)
  • FBI Fingerprint Clearance (less than one year old)
  • TB Test/Mantoux (less than 3 months old)
  • Physical (less than one year old, if applicable)

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal skills
• Good English communication skills
• Patience with students learning a second language
• Bilingual ability (a plus, but not required)
• Training or experience in de-escalation and crisis management techniques (highly preferred)
• Experience supporting students with disabilities in a public school system (highly desired)

Pay

$19.35/hour for the 2026-2027 school year.
