Responsibilities

Educational Assistant

  • Promote the mission of Bishop O†Gorman Catholic School
  • Tutor and support students in all academic areas
  • Administer make-up tests
  • Monitor student progress and keep records
  • Confer with supervising teachers
  • Perform various duties as assigned

After School Care (3:00PM-4:00PM)

  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for children
  • Understand and apply child development principles to situations
  • Guide children in a positive way using a preventative approach to discipline: redirection, setting positive limits, clearly stating expectations, encouragement, and praise
  • Provide choices, allowing children to problem-solve; reserve “time out” for regaining control rather than punishment
  • Model healthy ways of handling anger and frustration through reinforced positive behavior
  • Maintain and follow current lesson plans and goals, matching them to the age, skill, and developmental level of the children
  • Provide regular and varied outdoor/big room activities, bringing materials to create new play interests
  • Monitor and stay aware of activities in all areas
  • Supervise and interact during activities
  • Complete required training
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times
  • Maintain effective communication with parents
  • Promote teamwork and maintain good rapport with all staff
  • Sanitize toys on a regular basis

Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to effectively communicate the Catholic Church’s teachings through ministry activities
  • Commitment to living both professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as outlined in the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church
  • High school education or equivalent; some post-secondary training in education preferred
  • Experience working well with children
  • Strong verbal and math skills up through middle school level
  • Basic competency in computer skills
  • Resourcefulness and creativity to provide adaptations for students
  • Self-starter with high energy
  • Dexterity and mobility required
  • Ability to adjust to daily changes in task schedule
  • Strong planning, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Team player

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work daytime hours, primarily Monday–Thursday
  • Clarity of vision
  • Ability to speak English clearly
  • Ability to hear and distinguish sounds, including speech, alarms, and other work environment noises
  • Fine hand motor skills for keyboarding, writing, grasping, holding, and repetitive motion
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to intermittently bend, squat, and reach overhead

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7:30AM–3:00PM (Educational Assistant)
3:00PM–4:00PM (After School Care)
