FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Part-time (.60 FTE) role based in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at Stony Brook University.

About the Role

The Childbirth Educator and Doula Program Coordinator prepares expectant parents for labor, birth, and early parenting through comprehensive, evidence-based education while also coordinating and supporting a team of doulas. This role involves teaching classes, providing emotional support, and empowering parents with knowledge and skills for a positive birth experience, as well as administrative and training responsibilities for the doula program.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and implement Childbirth Education classes, including:
    • Class One: Preparing Your Mind and Body (Labor Stages and Phases/breathwork)
    • Class Two: Birth Confidence and Decision-Making (Birth Planning and Informed Choice)
    • Class Three: Postpartum Planning and Prep (Body Feeding and Newborn Care)
    • Class Four: Hands-on practice, mock scenarios, and closing ceremony
  • Evaluate, design, and train all Stony Brook Doulas.
  • Coordinate the doula team to provide comprehensive prenatal, labor, and postpartum support.
  • Serve as a doula liaison for program directors and provide program doula support.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to Childbirth Education classes and the Doula Program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Certifications: Doula certification and Childbirth Education Teacher.
  • Five years’ full-time experience as a birth doula, supporting birthing families through all stages of pregnancy, prenatally through postpartum (in-person and virtual).
  • Experience as a Childbirth Educator.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Docs and Zoom.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Pay

Starting salary range: $36,000–$48,000 annually at .60 FTE.
