About the role
The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking applications for a starting compensation of $24.82 per hour. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a passion for impactful work and learning.
Responsibilities
- Provide instructional support and reinforcement to students in academic, behavioral, and functional areas across school, community, and vocational settings.
- Implement curriculum and behavioral intervention strategies across various environments under the direction and guidance of a teacher and/or related services staff.
- Transfer, apply adaptive devices, tube feedings, diapering, and provide bathroom assistance and mobility training.
- Maintain student confidentiality, including written records.
- Absorb and communicate feedback regarding student performance.
- Aid in data collection activities (reviewing and documenting student progress).
- Aid in monitoring and implementing positive behavior strategies, including physical restraint/management, and safe space procedures.
- Supervise during lunch, recess, playground, hallways, and field trips.
- Participate in on-the-job training and district-level training.
- Assist with preparing instructional materials under a teacher's direction.
- Maintain records and a daily schedule with direction from the case manager.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree or 48 academic credits beyond high school, or pass an assessment in lieu of college credits.
- Department of Public Instruction Certification (License) to work with disabled children.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Prior experience working in a public school setting.
- Prior experience working with children who have disabilities.
- Prior experience working with children who are non-ambulatory and/or nonverbal.
- CPR certification.
- First aid training.
- Experience using email, internet, and word processing programs.

- Ability to provide individual and small group instructional reinforcement.
- Ability to work independently with students in various settings.
- Ability to keep accurate student data.
- Ability to work with physically aggressive students.
- Ability to work with students who are nonverbal or have unintelligible speech.
- Ability to follow teacher direction, written plans, individual education programs, and behavior intervention plans.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse students, staff, and community, orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to walk, sit, stoop, reach, and kneel.
- Ability to learn and use basic computer skills (e-mail, internet, word processing).
