Job Overview
The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is seeking a meticulous, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Editorial Manager to oversee the editorial quality and consistency of all HRF’s public-facing content. This role will serve as the organization’s editorial standard bearer, responsible for editing a wide range of materials—from in-depth research reports and printed publications to digital content including web copy, email newsletters, and social media.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit and proofread all external-facing content for clarity, accuracy, tone, style, grammar, and consistency.
- Oversee editorial review of research reports, policy briefs, event programs, fundraising materials, and other print publications.
- Take lead in drafting or compiling copy for key institutional publications, including but not limited to the Annual Report and Oslo Freedom Forum Recap Report.
- Edit and refine digital content, including web pages, blog posts, email newsletters, and social media copy.
- Collaborate with content creators across departments to maintain a cohesive editorial voice and messaging strategy.
- Develop and enforce HRF’s editorial style guide to ensure consistency across all platforms and formats.
- Provide feedback and guidance to staff and contributors to strengthen their writing and messaging.
- Ensure that all written materials are accessible, engaging, and aligned with HRF’s mission and goals.
- Manage editorial workflows, timelines, and approvals to meet deadlines and support campaign rollouts.
- Contribute to protocols for fact checking processes and source verification, in collaboration with legal, policy, and advocacy teams.
- Ensure tone, syntax, grammar of all written output consistent with editorial standards.
- Identify and manage external editorial providers as needed, including freelance editors, copywriters, translators, and fact checkers.
- Collaborate with the digital team to ensure all copy meets SEO goals and guidelines.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in editorial roles, preferably in nonprofit, journalistic, digital publishing, or advocacy settings.
- Exceptional editing and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and consistency.
- Demonstrated experience editing a wide range of content types and adapting tone and style to fit various platforms.
- A strong understanding of grammar, usage, tone, syntax, and AP Style.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling narratives.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with human rights, international affairs, or related topics is highly desirable.
- A collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal communication skills.
- A passion for human rights and a commitment to HRF’s mission.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $70,000 – $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
