About the role

The Editorial Lead and Brand Storyteller is a versatile, creative professional working at the intersection of marketing, business development, and communications. At the core of this role is storytelling—translating NP's work, wins, and deep legal knowledge into compelling narratives that resonate with clients, prospects, and the broader market, while advancing the firm's business objectives and strengthening its market position.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development colleagues to develop and execute content for the firm’s website, practices, industries, and other channels.
  • Serve as a trusted editorial partner to attorneys firmwide, guiding content through the editorial process and maintaining high editorial standards with an expert audience.
  • Review and edit client alerts, articles, and other thought leadership content prior to publication, evaluating each for brand alignment, web style, SEO optimization, and substantive quality, including identifying content that warrants greater balance, nuance, or expansion.
  • Flag content issues, including legal, reputational, or editorial concerns, and escalate appropriately to ensure timely resolution before publication.
  • Research, write, and edit timely, on-brand content—including, but not limited to, thought leadership, website content, client stories, presentations, video scripts, brochures, and similar materials—that aligns with the firm's brand voice and supports business objectives for clients and prospects.
  • Develop marquee thought leadership that creates visibility for the firm and its key industries, and partner with marketing colleagues to build and execute integrated campaigns that amplify reach and impact.
  • Interview attorneys and subject-matter experts to translate their legal insight into thought leadership.
  • Manage editorial calendars across practices and industries, managing timing, themes, content pipeline, and cross-functional dependencies to ensure a consistent cadence of high-quality content.
  • Proactively prepare thought leadership recommendations based on NP’s strategic plan and market demands.
  • Partner with digital marketing colleagues to identify SEO opportunities, optimize existing web content, and ensure new content is built with search performance.
  • Stay current on search engine algorithm updates, SEO trends, and evolving best practices (including AI-driven search and answer engines), and apply that knowledge to the firm's content strategy.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all firm contacts, internal personnel, and outside vendors.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of marketing or communications experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment. Sitecore experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Proficiency with the Chicago Manual of Style or comparable editorial style guides, with the ability to adapt to and maintain the firm's brand.
  • Ability to describe precise, occasionally complex details of legal practice in plain language for a non-expert audience.
  • Strong working knowledge of SEO best practices, including keyword research, on-page optimization, metadata, internal linking, and content structure for search performance.
  • Familiarity with how content performs across traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered search platforms, and ability to optimize accordingly.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent proofreading skills. Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and language usage, as well as standard business correspondence best practices.
  • Ability to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and foster successful, working relationships with legal and professional staff while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word and Excel).
