Editorial Assistant (Adult)
About the role
The position is a union role represented by UAW Local 2110 and subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. ABRAMS is a company in the book publishing industry known for its beautifully crafted books across various categories.
Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate manuscript submissions
- Write summaries or reader reports
- Auxiliary with research and development of new projects and proposals
- Copyedit and proofread manuscripts, layouts, and jacket or catalogue copy
- Draft preliminary copy for fact sheets, tip sheets, catalogs, and marketing materials
- Cope with authors, agents, and freelancers as needed
- Maintain and update schedules, databases, logs, and metadata
- Request and track contracts, permissions, and payments
- Route materials (e.g., manuscripts, layouts, proofs) across departments
- Take notes at meetings and circulate recaps as needed
- Organize internal files, archives, and submission logs
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations or assets for internal or sales use
- Provide general administrative and editorial support to the assigned editor or imprint team
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field preferred
- 1–2 years of publishing or office experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent proofreading and grammar skills
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects under deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Acrobat a plus
- Interest in books, publishing, and content development
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and work collaboratively

Pay
The base salary range for this position is ($40,000 - $45,000) per year. The final offer will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.

The position is located in New York, NY, and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence three days per week.
