About the role
The Editor/Writer supports the Publications department by developing, writing, editing, and proofreading content for a variety of publications, products, and materials. This role involves creating and adhering to style guides, writing for different audiences, and managing multiple projects with clear deadlines. The Editor/Writer may support projects or oversee their own, working collaboratively with various teams.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to writing, editing, copyediting, background research, and proofing for CRS retail publications, including books, articles, Quick Coaching Guides, student materials, teaching guides, online content, video, and other products.
- Write or edit material for newsletters, catalogs, websites, and other marketing pieces.
- Develop workshop and curriculum materials for Center for Responsive Schools programs, products, services, and events.
- Communicate tactfully with authors and content developers.
- Create and maintain project schedules and deadlines.
- Support the Executive Director's office with writing and editing as needed.
- Build and maintain knowledge of CRS brands, their basis, approach, and practices.
- Stay informed about current educational trends, customer interests, and evolving reading habits.
- Interview educators for product development and gather testimonials.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Department to develop campaign copy.
- Work with Programs and other departments to write and develop content as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in writing and editing for an organization, preferably in education publishing.
- Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, InCopy, and other Creative Suite products is helpful.
- Proficiency with applying style guides, such as The Chicago Manual of Style, to different types of writing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to receive and apply feedback.
- Strong computer skills, especially in G-Suite and Microsoft 365.
- Attention to detail, time-management, and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

- Ability to use a computer or phone for up to 8 hours per day with breaks.
