Position Overview
This position works with the editorial team at Rotary magazine, the official publication of Rotary International, to help oversee editing and production processes for its monthly print publication, website, and blog.
Core Responsibilities
- Copyediting, fact checking, and proofing all articles and other editorial elements for Rotary magazine, the Rotary Canada quarterly supplement, and the Rotary magazine website for clarity, accuracy, consistency, grammar, and style.
- Collaborating closely with the magazine’s fact-checker to guard the magazine’s reputation as a publication of record for Rotary International.
- Participating in weekly editorial planning meetings and partnering with magazine and web editors to brainstorm and research story ideas and plan issues.
- Participating in editorial decision-making, especially regarding story direction, display copy, and covers.
- Collaborating with writers, assigning editors, and art/design teams to resolve editorial issues.
- Cultivating a strong knowledge of Rotary and familiarity with staff members in other departments.
- Managing freelancers and assigning news and feature stories.
- Developing guidance and staying up to date on standards for reporting and writing about sensitive topics such as race, gender, disability, and diversity to ensure that the magazine remains an authoritative voice on important topics.
- Reviewing copy and layouts for legal and ethical concerns.

Pay
Salary Range: $81,000 - $90,000
