Job Responsibility
- Affords assistance to Physicians, Surgeons Assistants and Nurses, under supervision, in various patient procedures such as EKG's, phlebotomy, orthopedic splinting, and CPR.
- Prepares and sets up for procedures like suturing, surgery, spinal taps, foley insertion, chest tube insertion, trauma thoracotomy, lavage, slit lamp, and orthopedic reduction.
- Maintains department equipment by performing tests such as cleaning, disinfection, and setting up devices like Pleur-evac, vents, Gomko, and suction devices.
- Stays updated on Emergency Department Technology.
- Assists in examinations and management during procedures such as OB/GYN, neurological, respiratory, cardiac, emotional and behavioral, trauma, and overdose emergencies.
- Transports patients using proper techniques, including inline stabilization, patient positioning, body mechanics, and application of extremity and spinal devices.
- Documents patient information for admission, procedures, discharge, and transfers.
- Documents all procedures performed and gathers necessary medical records for healthcare team members.
- Performs general clerical duties as needed, such as checking, ordering, and stocking supplies in the Emergency Department.
Job Qualification
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Associated Degree, preferred.
- Certificate by the New York State Department of Health as an EMT, required.
- AEMT certification, preferred.
- BLS Certification required.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute hospital setting or related clinical experience, required.
- Demonstrated competency in at least one of the following, preferred: Electrocardiogram (EKG) testing; venipuncture procedures; and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
