Major Responsibilities
- Affords technical care to patients by performing phlebotomy, transporting patients, placing patients on cardiac and vital sign monitors, performing wound care, inserting Foley catheters, and obtaining lab specimens.
- Documents information and procedures and promptly communicates patient observations, concerns, and needs to registered nurses.
- Processes daily patient charges and/or related procedures through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Collaborates with physicians to support communications required for patient care. Facilitates all forms of communication including phone, verbal, paging, electronic, fax, and EMS system.
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment, adhering to department safety policies and standard precautions.
- Maintains and troubleshoots equipment, arranging repairs for major malfunctions.
- Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling while using proper technique.
Requirements
- Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Nurse Aide in good standing with the State Registry, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, EMT Basic Intravenous, EMT Intermediate, or EMT Paramedic license, or completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within 6 months.
Education
- High School Graduate.
Experience
- Typically requires 1 year of experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication with physicians, staff, patients, and their families.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks.
- High level of attention to detail.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Able to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs, carry up to 40 lbs, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, push/pull with 30 lbs of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present, operate foot pedals on carts or machines, and wear gloves, goggles, and gowns as needed.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and blood and body fluids hazards.
- Must have functional sight and hearing.
