ED Technician-24 hrs/wk, Evening
About the role
Emergency department technicians provide specialized assistance to nurses and physicians. They administer tests with diagnostic exams and therapeutic procedures. ED technicians will be interacting with a substantial amount of acutely ill and unstable patients.
Responsibilities
- Assists with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures
- Performs venipuncture to obtain blood specimens
- Aids physicians and nurses in providing technical support for patient care
- Reports on the condition of the patient to the appropriate supervisor/staff member
- Aids in the transport of patients to other departments
- Aids in obtaining and documenting vital signs, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems
- Obtains 12-lead EKGs, discontinues peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks
- Aids with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes
- Aids with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressings
- Measures and fits crutches and canes and instructs patients on proper use
Requirements
Preference given to candidates who have:
- Experience working in an acute care setting
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
- Basic computer skills
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a certified emergency medical technician (EMT) program preferred. Must pass a background check and drug screen.
Skills
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
