Salary schedule candidates that have taken the Para Assessment with a passing score, or have an Associate’s degree or 60 completed semester credits, may be eligible for a higher hourly rate in a certified position. About the Role

Under direct supervision, this position provides staff support in an educational environment, with an emphasis on instructional support in physical education classes. Employees implement lesson plans prepared by the physical education teacher, work with large groups of children throughout the school day (typically outdoors), and are responsible for student safety and discipline.

Responsibilities

• Conducts lessons prepared by the teacher outside on the physical education field for classes of students (minimum of 20 students) using planned activities and games.
• Assists the teacher in preparing for daily physical education classes by setting up equipment, marking boundaries, resetting for subsequent classes, and ensuring proper storage of equipment.
• Assists in the preparation of lesson plans and teachers’ pre-planning sessions; provides input and assistance in developing classroom activities and learning tools.
• Maintains class order and discipline by managing student behavior, reinforcing school and class rules, placing students in time-out, and referring students to the principal’s office as needed.
• Evaluates students’ performance using objective measurement and makes recommendations to the physical education teacher.
• Designs the physical education department’s bulletin boards and displays of student activities and objectives.
• Prepares or assists in the preparation of instructional materials, including copying, laminating, typing correspondence, and filing paperwork.
• Records daily student attendance.
• Coordinates with media center staff or curriculum resource teachers for supplemental instructional materials such as movies or books related to physical fitness and education.
• May be assigned monitoring duties (e.g., hallways, car and bus duty) to ensure appropriate student conduct.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of student information, including entering scores and data using a computer terminal.
• Stays updated on current technology relevant to the role and attends district-provided training to maintain required skill levels.
• Performs related duties as directed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of one (1) year of physical education or related experience.
• Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to the needs and safety of school-age children.
• Previous athletic or sports-related experience preferred.

• Data Utilization: Ability to compile, assemble, copy, record, or transcribe data according to prescribed plans, including judging whether characteristics meet standards or procedures.
• Human Interaction: Ability to provide guidance, assistance, or interpretation to others on applying procedures and standards to specific situations.
• Equipment Utilization: Ability to use, operate, and transport physical education equipment (e.g., gymnastics equipment, exercise mats, portable basketball goals, balance beams, vaults).
• Verbal Aptitude: Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive data, and information.
• Mathematical Aptitude: Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Functional Reasoning: Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions with some latitude for independent judgment in semi-routine tasks.
• Situational Reasoning: Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving frequent change and pre-defined duties.

• Physical Ability: Tasks involve moderate physical effort, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects of moderate weight.
• Sensory Requirements: Tasks require oral communication ability, visual discrimination, and the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
• Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed outdoors with exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, and noise.
