About the role
The Nursing Assistant assists in patient care throughout nursing areas, safely transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatches services, and documents services rendered. They also function as an observer for patients requiring constant supervision and perform general receptionist duties.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates skills and judgment necessary to provide direct and non-direct care under the supervision of licensed personnel.
- Observes, obtains, and reports patient data/status to assigned RN.
- Responds to peaks in acuity and emergent situations as directed by nursing staff.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification and BLS certification.
- Functions as a preceptor to new employees and displays professional working relationships with colleagues.
- Fosters a "Culture of Safety" through personal commitment to a safe environment, adhering to CDC hand hygiene guidelines, and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Conveys respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family, collaborating with them in planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
- Welcomes the presence and participation of family members at all times according to patient preferences.
- Considers individual needs of each person with whom they interact, possessing age and cultural knowledge and awareness.
- Communicates effectively and documents information accurately, dealing efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: Preferred High School Diploma/GED preferred.
- Minimum Work Experience: Previous Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience preferred.
- Required Classes/Skills: BLS - Basic Life Support. Required Additional Knowledge and Abilities: Basic medical terminology, basic computer skills, ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately, and ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
Qualifications
- Preferred High School Diploma/GED.
- Previous Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience.
- BLS Certification - American Heart Association (AHA).
- ACLS Certification - American Heart Association (AHA).
