About the Role
The Emergency Department Access Associate provides essential clerical and communication support to ensure efficient patient flow and coordination within the Emergency Department. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate documentation and facilitating timely communication between patients, nursing staff, providers, and outside facilities.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and organize patient charts and records accurately.
- Answer call lights and promptly notify nursing staff of patient needs.
- Contact outside hospitals and facilities to obtain medical records and relay critical information.
- Communicate effectively with the Charge Nurse and Team Leader to support timely notifications to medical teams.
- Assist in clerical functions to support patient care and departmental operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of related experience.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior healthcare or clerical experience preferred.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Basic administrative skills such as receptionist abilities (including phone, keyboarding, filing, and fax machine skills).
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods and performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing).
- Intermittently standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials.
- Exposure to loud noises, blood-borne or airborne pathogens, and combative/violent people.
Schedule
- Shifts start at 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM.
- Three 12.5-hour shifts per week; shifts may include days, evenings, nights, and/or swing.
- Required to work some weekends and holidays.
