About the role
The Echocardiography Diagnostic Technologist performs complete echocardiographic examinations including M-mode, two-dimensional and Doppler Echocardiography on clinical and/or research patients. They also assist in performing trans esophageal echocardiographic and stress echocardiographic examinations. Additionally, they assist in coordinating efficient patient flow, staff assignments, educational support, and ensuring the highest quality procedures consistent with IAC standards for Echocardiography.
Responsibilities
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Escorts patient from waiting area to examination room and reviews written history questionnaire.
- Explains nature of test to patient.
- Performs echocardiograms – 2D, M-mode, color Doppler according to department policy to comply with physician orders/standard of care.
- Performs trans-esophageal echocardiograms (TEE) on non-operative/intra-operative basis according to department policy to comply with physician orders/standard of care.
- Performs dobutamine stress echocardiograms (DSE), Stress Echocardiograms according to department policy to comply with physician orders/standards of care.
- Logs all pertinent patient/test data to ensure accurate billing/record keeping for the hospital and department.
- Maintains images in EHRC.
- Cleans/disinfects/sterilizes clinical equipment to ensure staff and internal/external customer safety from pathogens.
- Participates in on call as per department policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Completion of a two-year echocardiography training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or cardiovascular technology program accredited by the CAAHEP.
- Registration by a national certification organization such as American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
