About the role
Assists lead teacher with instructional activities to provide learning experiences to individual and small groups of students. Assists instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises. Assists individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities. Monitors and assists students in a variety of instructional activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel.
Responsibilities
- Participates in training and assists in integrating Muckleshoot language and culture in the classroom setting.
- Participates in school meetings, IEP/IFSP meetings, parent conferences, and in-services or other trainings; supports parent involvement in the classroom.
- Supervises students in a variety of educational settings for up to 30-45 minutes at a time.
- Uses positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior and an appreciation of human diversity.
- Aids in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids for use with individual or small groups of students.
- Maintains a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
- Requisitions, stores and maintains an appropriate inventory of textbooks, instructional materials, supplies and equipment.
- May drive a van or automobile to transport students.
- Aids in maintaining an orderly, attractive and positive learning environment.
- Completes transportation records such as number of students transported, mileage, special runs, route directions, etc.
- May transport children with special learning needs and physical challenges; may operate power lifts to load and unload students in wheelchairs; and may strap and tie down wheelchairs to ensure student safety.
Requirements
- Required Early Childhood Education Certificate or A Child Development (CDA) credential (Tribal members only must be willing to obtain within 1 year of employment).
- One (1) year of professional experience working with children in preschool, daycare, or similar setting.
Special Requirements
- Must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunization requirements.
- Must be able to obtain satisfactory results on a pre-employment physical examination, including tuberculosis screening.
