Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care (approximately 75% of the time), performing all duties expected of Veterinary Nurse I and II roles.
- Cookordinate the day-to-day operations of the Emergency and ICU departments.
- Supervise, hire, and train assigned nursing staff.
- Create and maintain staff schedules; approve time off requests.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to support patient care needs.
- Oversee performance management processes, including evaluations and corrective actions.
- Facilitate effective communication related to patient and client care.
- Resolve performance, workflow, and operational concerns.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
Work Schedule
Primary shift is second shift. Flexibility to work weekends, day and night shifts as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school with coursework in Veterinary Technology;
- Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in patient care, surgery, drug dosing and sterilization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan, or attainment of such certification within one year of date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
- Three to five years as an Emergency and/or Critical Care Licensed Veterinary Technician preferably within a hospital teaching setting.
- Demonstrated level of emotional intelligence in a high stress work environment.
- Prior supervision preferred.

- Lifting and carrying animals or equipment up to 50lbs individually or 150lbs as a team
- TB risk or have potential exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis.
- Work with animals or unfixed animal tissue.
- Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort)
