ECCM Supervisor - 2nd shift / Veterinary Nurse III

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care (approximately 75% of the time), performing all duties expected of Veterinary Nurse I and II roles.
• Cookordinate the day-to-day operations of the Emergency and ICU departments.
• Supervise, hire, and train assigned nursing staff.
• Create and maintain staff schedules; approve time off requests.
• Ensure adequate staffing levels to support patient care needs.
• Oversee performance management processes, including evaluations and corrective actions.
• Facilitate effective communication related to patient and client care.
• Resolve performance, workflow, and operational concerns.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations.

Work Schedule

Primary shift is second shift. Flexibility to work weekends, day and night shifts as needed.

Minimum Requirements

• Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school with coursework in Veterinary Technology;
• Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in patient care, surgery, drug dosing and sterilization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan, or attainment of such certification within one year of date of employment.

Desired Qualifications

• Three to five years as an Emergency and/or Critical Care Licensed Veterinary Technician preferably within a hospital teaching setting.
• Demonstrated level of emotional intelligence in a high stress work environment.
• Prior supervision preferred.

Work Hours

Summary of Physical Demands

• Lifting and carrying animals or equipment up to 50lbs individually or 150lbs as a team

Summary of Health Risks

• TB risk or have potential exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis.
• Work with animals or unfixed animal tissue.
• Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort)
