EC Teacher - Occupational Course of Study

About the Role

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this position maximizes the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living by implementing district-approved curriculum. The role involves documenting teaching and student progress, addressing students' specific needs, and providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
• Develops Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
• Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
• Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff to ascertain individual student abilities and needs, including those with special needs, and familiarizes stakeholders with social work services.
• Acquires professional knowledge and stays current with developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings.
• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, providing student information to prospective colleges and employers as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
• Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Applies knowledge of Response to Instruction (RtI) strategies.

Requirements

• State certification in General Curriculum (license code 88091 or 88001) and designation as "highly qualified."
• Ability to conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations.
• Experience developing and implementing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
• Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Familiarity with data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Proficiency in using computer network systems and software applications.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to operate a variety of equipment, including computers, copiers, and calculators.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Capability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
• Light work involving significant walking or standing.
• Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or things.
• Ability to communicate effectively through speech and hearing, including telephone communication.
• Ability to read and prepare a variety of documents using prescribed formats and conforming to grammatical and stylistic rules.
• Ability to speak confidently before groups.
• Proficiency in applying logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to record and deliver information, follow oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively in standard English.
• Proficiency in basic mathematical operations, including algebra, descriptive statistics, and statistical inference.
• Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
• Coordination of hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
• Manual dexterity to handle office equipment and tools with minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.
• Ability to work under stress and in emergency situations.

Schedule

Full-time for ten (10) months.

Pay

Salary based on state and local salary schedules.
