EC&I Engineer

About the role

This position is responsible for taking ownership of the site's Electrical, Control/Automation, and Instrumentation systems, providing technical support and guidance to technicians while driving operational excellence through line performance improvements, process optimization, and automation initiatives. The role advances the business through continuous improvement of process control systems, automation technologies, and manufacturing efficiency. You will lead, plan, manage, and support engineering projects including new equipment specification, design, installation, and commissioning, as well as major factory development initiatives involving engineering software systems, process control, automation, and SCADA platforms. The role also provides day-to-day production and engineering support for all manufacturing control systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of SCADA, PLC, MES, and related automation technologies across the site.

Location: Gurnee (Fluids Plant)

Responsibilities

• Ensure business SHEQ standards are adhered to individually, including appropriate procedures, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures.
• Establish and communicate a robust, safe system of work and standard operating procedures for all site activities.
• Drive Continuous Improvement with emphasis on Visual Management, 6S, and LEAN initiatives.
• Maintain high levels of housekeeping across the site.
• Maximize equipment effectiveness through full lifecycle management.
• Provide technical support for Engineering systems including Process Control, SCADA, MES, and Instrumentation.
• Identify, initiate, and manage improvement projects.
• Liaise with suppliers to prepare project and CAPEX proposals.
• Ensure all system documentation is updated when new systems are installed or upgraded.
• Collaborate with all departments to source the best equipment and implement suitable installations to support operations and factory requirements.
• Ensure training is in place for any new system.
• Prepare SOPs and WIs for new equipment in consultation with operations and engineering departments.
• Coach and mentor the engineering team.
• Complete all tasks in accordance with Domino working practices and quality procedures.
• Demonstrate and role-model company values and leadership behaviors.
• Complete annual training requirements, performance and development reviews, and Individual Development Reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field.
• Experience with process control and automation (PLCs, VSD, SCADA, Instrumentation & calibration, MCCs).
• At least 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Experience supervising projects, including people and budgetary management.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and seek help when necessary.

Physical Demands

Light work involving exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Tasks may include pushing, pulling, stooping, reaching, gross/fine manipulation, driving, kneeling, crawling, and climbing.

Health & Safety Concerns

• Exposure to chemical hazards such as solvents, adhesives, paints, toxic dusts, and potentially toxic fumes or acids.
• General office environment.

Pay

$90,000 - $110,000 (based on qualifications).
