About the role
As the Lead Operator on the 2nd shift (3:00pm - 11:00pm) with training on the day shift (7:00am - 3:00pm), you will ensure efficiency and productivity in the Flex Pack conversion department. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments to maintain smooth operations while upholding high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead the team in performance, efficiency, and punctuality.
- Coordinate deliveries to the warehouse and handle emergency pick-ups/deliveries.
- Assist with special R&D projects and new product development.
- Communicate with the swing shift supervisor and procurement team to arrange daily materials transportation.
- Maintain inventory to company standards and report daily levels to the Finishing Manager.
- Assist with schedule modifications based on business needs.
- Monitor quality checks across shifts (e.g., bond tests, tape tests) and ensure compliance.
- Verify daily Flex Pack schedule, operator metrics, and cleaning schedules are updated and cataloged.
- Assist with major maintenance activities (e.g., foil replacement, cryo pump replacement, filament replacement, reconditioning, and regeneration of the Ebeam unit).
- Promote a safe working environment and train new employees on safe practices.
- Manage testing of new sleeves and aniloxes.
- Assist with shipping activities as needed.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- 2-3 years’ experience operating similar machinery.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR).
Skills
- Mathematical aptitude and ability to calculate simple equations.
- Ability to read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Basic oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Soft skills: prioritization, proactivity, problem-solving.
- Computer program knowledge and press operation experience.
- Ability to safely drive various company vehicles.
Physical Demands
- Regular lifting, sitting, standing, and crouching; repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening.
Work Environment
- Regular exposure to dust and noise in a production environment.
- Warehouse temperatures may be influenced by outside conditions.
- Safety shoes and eye protection are highly recommended in the production area.
